Community Climate Change Adaptation Plan
Wellington County's climate is changing and the risks are growing.
As temperatures rise, the region can expect hotter summers and more frequent extreme heat events. Heavier rainfall will also become more common, increasing the risk of flooding.
The County of Wellington is creating a community climate change adaptation plan.
This plan will help the County understand and prepare for the effects of a changing climate. It will:
- Identify how climate change could affect local communities (such as extreme heat risks for outdoor workers, and flooding impacts on farms and neighbourhoods)
- Assess where the community is most at risk and vulnerable
- Determine priority areas that need action
- Develop practical steps to reduce those impacts
Building the plan together
Wellington County's community climate change adaptation plan is being developed with input from a wide range of voices, including member municipalities, public health units, school boards, Conservation Authorities, Indigenous communities, equity-denied groups, social support organizations, and you.
